What is Zero-Day?

A zero-day vulnerability is a security flaw in software or hardware that is unknown to the vendor and has no available patch at the time of discovery. The term 'zero-day' refers to the fact that the vendor has had zero days to fix the issue. Zero-day exploits are particularly dangerous because there are no defences against them until a patch is released, making them highly valued by both attackers and security researchers.
